This DVD attempt to cram into about an hour the entire history of North American exploration. Given its aim, I have it does quite a decent job of doing so. It summarized five hundred years of history and many dozen expeditions and explorers into brief tidbits of information. I don’t assume this is a excellent educational tool, since it would likely be somewhat dead — it does not have very enchanting stories, impartial a stream of information. Rather, this is a friendly starting point to someone wishing to research North American exploration and would like an intro to the main events and people in its history. Not really something to excite people about history, people seeing this should already be indignant.

I read somewhere that the overwelmingly red scrutinize of American Beauty is a symbol for blood and roses. Represented in the film by the flower petals in Lester Burnham’s fantasies, and the blood spilt when the sadness that hovers beneath bears its face. The title of American Beauty does not refer to the exquisite surfaces that camouflage the distress of these people, but the beauty of their souls when dealing with that pain. Many reviewers have considered the title to be ironic, it isn’t. I’ve heard Kevin Spacey say that this film is about context, because taken out of context the behaviour of these characters seem bizzare and even phsycotic, but out with in the context of their messy lives or indeed anybody’s life, it seems natural. If I bid you that Kevin Spacey plays a character who is obsessed with the opinion of sleeping with his daughter’s best friend, a daughter who constantly anounces her hatred of her parents, a woman so obsessed with appearances that happiness is but a memory to her, a loner who makes his living as a drug dealer with a firm rigid father living in denial about his son and himself, you would guess that there would be no one to like in this film. You would be faulty. This film is magical in the contrivance it lets identify with these characters, care for them and distress about their outcome. Infact the ideas of American Beauty are nothing original. The persuit of happiness through the abanodoning of materialistic possesions and the satisfaction of primal, animal and natural desires was the right same premise for Fight Club. This could be a middle frail version of that film. The family turmoil closely resembles Ang Lee’s The Ice Storm 1998, and like that film, American Beauty ends in tragedy. But as with all masterpieces its not the “point” that counts, but how you gain there. Unprejudiced like the fact that anything novel you learn in life is the history you don’t know, most originality in movies is the movies you haven’t seen and the novel’s you haven’t read. The fact that the film remains a masterpiece is a credit to the execution of those ideas, not their originality. Our hero is Lester Burnham a man who goes quits his job, shaded mails his boss, and goes wild for a year. His swagger of self-discovery is not what your average citizen would call fair, yet we smooth sympathise. My favourite scene in the film is where Lester meets Ricky(Wes Bently) outside a section. Ricky sells marijuana for a living and makes a lot of money. Lester tells him that when he was his age he “flipped burgers all summer long” for very shrimp money. “That sucks” says Ricky, “No actually it was extraordinary.” The heart of the film is this scene, Lester’s yearning for those years where his whole life was ahead of him, when he believed he coul do anything, when he wasn’t such a “loser”. This purity is the Beauty to which the title refers. Ricky Fitts is the boy next door, a loner who likes to film people. His father is a rigid military man. Both Wes Bently and Chris Cooper who play father and son respectively give monumental performance equal to Kevin Spacey’s oscar winner. Their family is a incompatibility to Lester’s, and in its tragedy, emotional complexity and heart rupture exceeds it. Ricky’s catatonic mother is perhaps what Lester would have become had he not taken charge of his life. I have tried to justify this film, but its not a film that can be defined. It is one to be experienced. If I direct that the gape of a paper bag blowing in the wind will amaze you, you glean it very humorous indeed. Acredit then to this film that when Ricky prove us a video of a paper bag blowing in the wind, it is indeed a breathtakingly aesthetic examine.

“American Beauty” is a pure cinematic triumph that is both amusing and murky. It’s disturbing… and yet, it’s extremely arresting and deep. The film is an fabulous achievement that reveals a tragic and realistic record about a family that is anything but ordinary. It’s a film with so many layers that it is almost impossible to dissect them all in one single understanding.

Meet Lester Burnham; a man who feels like he’s completely boring inside. His wife and daughter loathe him and do not point to him any signs of respect. On the surface, the family seems like a picture-perfect family that everybody dreams about–but inside is a completely different matter. His wife is obsessed with material possessions and doesn’t care for “petty” things like appreciate or life, while his daughter resents herself because she isn’t “perfect.” Lester’s mental coma is rudely interrupted when he meets his daughter’s friend and starts fantasizing about her. The awakening might be due to a disturbing concept or feeling, but the wake-up call changes Lester and allows him to realize that there’s always time to erase his “forced-image” and be the person he really is. This is all a set-up for a comic, disturbing and tragic movie.

I don’t know about everybody else, but my mind was literally racing around when this movie was playing before my eyes. It’s one of those films that allows you to prefer up on something different upon each viewing. As I said in the beginning of the review, this film has a number of layers to it. There’s so many different meanings and points to the film that it is nearly impossible to relate them all in one tiny review. Besides, the fun allotment of the movie is discovering these meanings and points for yourself. You know a film is successful when you totally lose yourself to it and allow it to challenge you in every device. The film is crafted flawlessly and doesn’t have a wasted puny in it.

The acting from Kevin Spacey is really a inspect to spy. He gives his character all of the proper needs and feelings that is distinguished for the authenticity of his role. You don’t even gaze at him as an actor–but as the loyal person he portrays. It is certainly a milestone in his acting career that will continue to be remembered throughout all cinematic history. Annette Bening is also excellent in her role and brings life to her character, as well. Everybody in the film should be applauded, as they all form the film what it is.

“American Beauty” is a breath-taking masterpiece with a very high replay value. It’s a terrific film on every front and does not disappoint for a single second. While it’s not a movie that everybody will like, it’s most certainly one to check out if you are a lover of films. So the commercials all promote Jackie Chan and Jet Li. What they neglect to do is mention, I dunno, the **main character** of the film, a young Boston kid named Jason Tripitikas (played by Michael Anganaro) .

So the movie’s basically a kid film. You have a reluctant hero who gets sent to a fantasy version of China, and along the design he learns martial arts and Eastern philosophy.

What did I like about it? The fight scenes are, for the most portion, amazing. They begin off a slight dilapidated, gather better over time, and then procure absolutely fabulous when you have both Jet Li and Jackie Chan in the film. The fight scenes are weakest when there’s too powerful CGI in them — but most of them are purely physical, and quite suited.

The Chinese fantasy aspects are authentic, if not just (distinguished in the same plan the HBO series Rome is not a completely apt recounting of events, but an authentic recreation of the tone of mature Rome) . They throw in things like The Monkey King and his golden staff, soldier monks, drunken immortals and even The Bride With White Hair. And the Chinese philosophy, for those familiar with it, is dwelling on.

Jackie Chan and Jet Li are astounding not only as fighters, but comedically as well. (There’s a scene arresting rain that had absolutely everyone in the theater laughing hard.) Anganaro puts in a surprising turn physically — he looks like he got a lot of martial training. Yifei Liu is heartbreakingly beautiful.

It’s probably a slight scary for young kids — there is some intense violence in the beginning, for instance. And there are sappy moments, as you would query for a kid’s film. But it means well. I have to say that I had a bit of disaster making out the English of some of the Chinese actors sometimes, tho — and I’m Chinese-American! I concern others might have even worse problems.

Still, overall, I liked it.

Ok hold that popcorn out of the microwave, grab your cola, and place the lights down crude and net ready for some kung-fu action.

At first look, the movie seems to be beefy oh wired choreographed fight scenes which I blooming great abhor. But the movie took the scenes and made them `ok’. It was like it was telling us “Yes, we know you know it’s wires, but you and we are ok with it”. And I was. It starts with The Monkey King kicking some butt up on top of a spurious looking mountain top, and then *poof* we get out that it was all but a dream. Jason Tripitikas wakes up and heads to his common pawn shop down in Chinatown to lift up some more kung-fu movies. As Jason is heading out of Chinatown, he gets stopped by some local thugs/bullies. They acquire fun of him about his kung-fu movies and then note him some of their possess fighting style. After the beat down they snort him to buy them to the pawn shop so they can prefer the location. The primitive man, shiny a few moves himself, takes it to them, but only cheated out of the grace of fighting like a man, by a single bullet. Jason runs from the thugs with a staff that the traditional man hands him. As Jason tries to gather away, he falls and lands…

…in a different world in a different time. He comes across a man named Lu Yan (Chan) who tells him about his staff. That it once belonged to noteworthy man named The Monkey King. The Monkey King was tricked into a non gorgeous fight and before the King was imprisoned he sent his staff away so that someone could arrive rescue him with it. They capture it’s Jason, but is it? As they go to where the Monkey King is imprisoned they near across Golden Sparrow. A girl seeking revenge for her family’s death. They also reach across The Soundless Monk (Li), who is also on a mission to free the Monkey King. With their journeys intertwined, we can only hope for some sweet Kung-Fu action. And boy do we accept it.

Jackie Chan vs. Jet Li was truly fun to observe. We all know it could’ve been Mighty better if they were probably 10 or 15 years younger than they are, but arrive on, it was calm a mammoth fight scene. Praying Mantis, Snake, Tiger, Crane, all types of Kung-Fu was extinct. It was definitely something to see.

The Monkey King vs. The Jade Emperor, even though CGI enhanced and wire enhanced, was glorious awesome. It made the fact that they were godlike characters more believable. The CG extinct for this was spectacular and looked stop to being sincere.

And there were many more scenes where Lu Yan, The Calm Monk, the Golden Sparrow are fighting all types of people. You won’t be bored with a lack of Kung-Fu.

I also liked how there was a white haired woman bounty hunter after them. When she fought her hair became piece of arsenal along with a whip she carried. Now I’ve seen some Kung-Fu flicks with people using their long hair before and the diagram it seems fraudulent, always made it mountainous. In this movie, when she starts to whip her hair around, it’s CG looking (but once again this does not damage it), until it hits the person. For instance on one scene it’s got Lu Yan grabbing her hair and looks totally erroneous, but at the same time fantastic. It felt like a throwback to some of the older movies. Man I loved it.

Some people are complaining that this was too kiddy. Well, I can recognize where they are coming from because there isn’t a deep fable here. It did feel like it was more geared towards a `not really having to reflect about it’ crowd. And you know what. Suited. I don’t always have to deem about stuff when I’m watching a generous action flick. I actually had a blast watching this because I deem if it took itself to seriously, most of the fight scenes would have been `eye rolling’ instead of astounding.

In the extinguish I would say grab this movie up as soon as you can and sit the kids down with a titanic Papa Johns pizza and have a fun time.

P.S. The plot the anecdote was region up, with the kid going from reality into an almost storybook memoir, to near wait on into reality with things he learned… it sort of makes me consider of The Never Ending Legend but with Kung-Fu instead of a large flying dog.

Going to retain it simple here folks. If you delight in Anime that has some notion tedious the world is represented, then assume this Anime. The legend is a tiny plain at times, even during these times you obtain yourself very alive to in what is going on, as the characters tend to act in very human and concept provoking ways. I really enjoyed the series and I enjoy you will as well.

Um…this anime was in a talk once in Japan. At first, I held a rather high expectation from it, especially the action in this anime. No doubt, the action is terrific, but only at the beginning. As you might know that the characters are killed one by one. All the people with special skills were killed earlier than the other with less special skill and less action. I mediate the sturcture is, first action and gradually going to a deeper and more serious allege about the record. Unfortunately, when the epic goes deeper, it becomes clumsy and sort of expressionless….Finally, it seems to turn out to be a ‘great esteem story’ out of no where meanwhile it gives up on the other contents, like some political articulate and mystery in this chronicle. Even though it has already stated that it has something about the relationship among the characters, it objective does not have ‘it’ to come my heart, especially for the 2 main characters. Besides, its sudden loss of action really drags it down for some extent. Definitely, I do not want to talk about the details and the ending. In general, the fable seems to be incoherent and empty.

1.) Instead of Howard going true after the woman in the car, he first sees another woman (Yeardley Smith) with a matching fur coat. He sees a TurboMan package in her bag and offers her money. She takes it and walks away. He takes it out and discovers that it is TurboMan’s sidekick, Booster. He then runs after the woman in the car.

2.) In the following scene of Howard traveling to different toy stores looking for TurboMan, the ‘Jingle all the Way’ song is replaced by “The Christmas Song”.

Personally I pick this edition cause I am a sucker for Director’s Cuts…plus I do like this movie alot. This Extended Slice is presented in it’s new theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1, a fullscreen version is not offered on this disc. If you like this movie and have the previous edition I would recommend upgrading, if you’re unique to this movie then this is the edition to regain.

Yes, “Jingle All the Plot” is chock chubby of abominable acting and ridiculous situations, but hey, it’s a Holiday comedy, and a darn righteous one! And, for those of us who are really into Christmas shopping and have been on that search for the elusive, must have toy of the year, it really touches a nerve!

Arnold Schwarzenegger plays Howard Langston, a workaholic father who’s failing with his family. He is constantly breaking promises and missing family events simply by being absent-minded and overly concerned with his business. When he shows up far too slack for his son Jamie’s Karate presentation, he realizes he’s got some major sucking up to do. Howard immediately offers to acquire his son anything he wants for Christmas as a lickety-split fix. But, exiguous does Howard know that the toy Jamie wants, the official Turbo Man action figure, is the hottest toy of the season! No stores in town have one, and tomorrow is Christmas Eve!!!

Howard gets an early inaugurate in the morning, arriving at a toy store that hasn’t opened yet and already has a gargantuan crowd outside. Here, he meets his biggest competition, an unstable mailman named Myron (Sinbad) . Myron is also an inexperienced shopper whose son has asked for a Turbo Man figure. Both men are insecure and angered when everyone in the store mocks them upon hearing what they are looking for, and this is where their heated rivalry begins. Howard and Myron bump into each other at station after set in their search for the evasive toy and continue to physically abuse each other at nearly every encounter, and every bit of it is quite hilarious! In addition to dealing with Myron’s attacks while searching for Turbo Man, Howard has to retain tabs on his intrusive neighbor, Tim (Phil Hartman), who is continuously making plays for Howard’s wife, Liz (Rita Wilson) . It’s not as confusing as it sounds, but it’s a lot for a man to have to anguish about on Christmas Eve when he’s gotta meet his family at a parade later on that same day.

“Jingle All the Procedure” is a big Christmas adventure that is elephantine of laughs and mayhem! It’s not supposed to be “It’s A Amazing Life,” it’s unbiased supposed to be droll! And it is, if you have any sort of sense of humor at all and any experience with last-minute shopping during the Holiday Season! Arnold Schwarzenegger is level-headed not a colossal actor, but he plays the role of a helpless, inexperienced shopper rather well, and this is probably my current of all his movies that I’ve seen. Sinbad is colossal as nutty mailman Myron, and Phil Hartman steals the movie as Tim, the seemingly perfect single dad that all the neighborhood women want, but who mainly has eyes for Liz. And, upon repeated viewings, Jake Lloyd (who plays Arnold’s son) isn’t as annoying as everyone says. “Jingle All the Plot” may not be as magical as “Miracle On 34th Street,” but it smooth qualifies as an annual MUST Look Christmas movie for this viewer, and probably many others!

Updating this review for the “Family Fun Edition” 2007 DVD release, the newest edition, which maintains the enhanced widescreen of the previous release, includes a handful of current extras along with a special, extended slash of the film. Unfortunately, having watched the extended carve, I can definitely say I aloof rob the theatrical version. Luckily, this unique release includes both. The scenes added into the extended version were deservedly crop from the film, and it also includes a different and completely defective song in the early toy hunting montage, making the theatrical version worthy more luscious. The only sure thing I can say about the extended version is that they recede the post-end credits scene to objective before the demolish credits, and it fits so well that one wonders why it wasn’t placed there to commence with. The extras include “The Making of a Hero”, which is a somewhat tantalizing behold at the creation of the Turbo Man character, “Tidy Kids”, a resplendent unnecessary interview montage with random kids on their wishes to be superheroes, and “Turbo Man Unmasked,” a short and mildly comic mockumentary on the hero as a extinct (fictional) TV star that inspired a fictional action figure craze. Other extras include a photo gallery that is happily in a slideshow format and two DVD games. “Guess the Gift” is a somewhat fun game. I took less interest in the “Christmas Hurry” shopping cart game, as it was one of those luck based games that didn’t rely distinguished on your input as to whether or not you won or lost.

If you’re a fan of the film and don’t acquire it yet, I definitely recommend the Family Fun edition. If you bear the 2004 release that already had the 16×9 enhancement, you may not feel it critical to double-dip for the sake of the extended cleave or current extras. Also, all buyers should be aware that this edition doesn’t acquire the previous extras (theatrical trailer and cast bios) .

This is the station that a lot of young people come by themselves in, especially around Berlin, Halle, Magdeburg and other of the larger, more horrified German urban areas.

Now, this is the backdrop for Lola and her boyfriend Manni. Manni is beginning a promising career as a drug dealer, making his first bag. He is on the point of delivering the bag of cash to the mob boss. Never mind that this petite career proceed will most likely land him 15 years in prison followed by a lifetime of being shunned and being practically unemployable; that is, if he survives the police hunt for his sorry arse. But Manni feels hopeless and trapped, so what’s the risk? Lola, who comes from a wealthy but dysfunctional Berlin family, is needy and interested to abet her Manni. Neither inquire the outcome of their actions.

Yes, they both goof up, Lola forgets her assignment and goes off for a pack of smokes, Manni panics and now his very life is on the line. And Lola volunteers to serve, putting her life on the line, though she doesn’t realize that she is in concern. She has twenty minutes to solve this life-and-death negate. And she DOES it, while filmed like a rock video in flashes, running like a madwoman through Berlin to derive to the prize.

If you don’t like the outcome, the inevitable, the dusky, unprejudiced wait a diminutive, the filmmaker, god that he is, can change all that for you. If you want a fairy godmother, he’s prepared to be one for you. Impartial sob like an infant, as Lola does, and director Tom Tykwer will grant your wish. If you then don’t like that particular wave of his magic wand, well, wait another puny. But don’t ogle too closely, or you will view an accusation that actions DO have consequences.

Though filmed creatively and in burst-like flashes, the anecdote is completely coherent and even has a just, or two, or three.

As to the film itself, it is better letterboxed to savor the cinematography. The subtitles are true, though the swears and other contaminated epithets are made a bit milder than actually they are in vernacular German–perhaps because they sight shapely stark when printed rather than spoken. This is a film that is worth seeing quite a few times to seize up the nuances and missed frames–you can’t blink for a second because you will miss something essential.

HIGHLY Recommended –entertaining, yet superior for family discussions about choices in life.

Run Lola Race is the type of frenzied arthouse describe that honest doesn’t acquire made here in North America. That’s really a shame because Urge Lola Hurry is definitley one of the best movies of the year. From a cinematic point of opinion “Lola” is one of the most creative and energetic films that I have ever seen.

The film is appropriately titled as Lola really does urge for practically the entire film. When she does not succeed in saving her boyfriend the movie cuts wait on to the opening sequence and the film plays out yet again in an entirely different fashion. The central belief is that puny variations in behaviour can change the entire outcome of a plot. This view was also explored in “Sliding Doors”, unfortunately, with far more mixed results.

Eventually the cycle repeats itself three times over the movies one hour twenty runt cloak time. Urge Lola Race is objective bubbling with creative ideas and really is a fine trail. The action never really lets up (except in a brief bed scene) and is filmed in the kind of frenetic, crazy style that MTV would be proud of. Lola is also extremely amusing in many parts especially when the film briefly delves into the future’s of various tiny characters.

This is a perfect runt film that stands up to repeated viewings. It is sparkling, bewitching and is something that is completely fresh. Hollywood movies rarely have those three qualities, this German one does.

Outlaw Star heats up in the last 8 episodes with the tension building until the final episode. The animation and music continue to be strong, and the position only gets better from this point on.

Episode 19, “Law and Lawlessness”, is grand more than the filler episode it looks like at first inspect. We are introduced to several characters from the Outlaw Star spinoff, “Angel Links”, when the Outlaw Star and its crew are wrongfully arrested for being pirates after a fight in status.

Episode 20, “Cats and Girls and Residence Ships”, is dedicated to everyone’s approved 11-year-old computer wizard, Jim Hawking. Stationed at a spot position for repairs after a fierce fight, Jim meets Hanmyo, a young girl his age also impartial visiting the location…

In episode 21, “Grave of the Dragon”, the crew visit an used planet with queer man-made structures from thousands of years ago. Inside, they originate to learn more about the Galactic Leyline, but it seems wherever they go, the MacDougall brothers are following them. Harry tries to convince Melfina to reach with him once again, but Gene intervenes before he can bewitch her away…

In episode 22, the mysterious scientist following the Outlaw Star crew ever since the Spot Accelerate episodes, Gwen Kahn, shows up once again. It seems he wants to pick up the Galactic Leyline as great as Gene and the crew does, but doesn’t want to net his enjoy hands dirty. He knows an inmate at a prison on an unforgiving planet with varying gravities who knows the coordinates of the Leyline. Unfortunately, prisoners aren’t allowed visitors, and Gwen Kahn disables Melfina’s personality and holds it hostage until Gene can derive the coordinates.

Then there’s episode 23, “Hot Springs Planet Tenrei”. Can you say fan service? Now with the coordinates to the Leyline, Gene and the crew have to compose one final discontinuance before the sail into unknown territories. Gene hears of a mage who can gain special Caster Shells who lives on a planet turned tourist attraction, Tenrei. Episode 23 is a combination of two things that Outlaw Star usually isn’t: Comedy and gratuitous fan service. It’s a nice change before the final three episodes which couldn’t be more serious.

In episode 24, “Cutting the Galactic Leyline”, with the Caster Shells and the coordinates of the Leyline, Gene and the crew flit off into spot into the Leyline, but they’re not alone. The MacDougall brothers once again followed them to it. Additionally, the remaining Anten Seven, led by Hanzako, are also looking for the Leyline. If that wasn’t enough, Aisha has been tipping off the Ctarl-Ctarl ever since she joined the crew of the Outlaw Star. Now that the cast is state, the final showdown is about to start…

In episode 25, “The Maze of Despair”, everyone’s finally inside the Leyline, and Melfina is abducted by an unknown force into it, and now it’s a urge to come by to her before the MacDougall brothers or the Anten Seven do. It’s here we approach to many revelations. Suzuka’s true motives for joining the crew of the Outlaw Star are revealed, and so are Harry MacDougall’s upright feelings towards Melfina. Are they really anything more than a unique obsession?

Episode 26, “Return to State”, is the conclusion to the myth… Who will near out alive in the demolish, and will Gene resolve adore over the power of the Leyline? It’s up to you to perceive and rep out!

I unbiased got a enjoy of the 3rd and last installment to the Outlaw Star DVD collection. This DVD includes 2 DVDs with episodes 19-26.

As with all the other DVD collections, extras are minimal and do on the 2nd Disc. I would hope that they establish more extras especially because there are only 3 collections for the series. Anyway, this collection includes the textless ending scene for the 2nd ending song titled Tsuki no Ie (The house on the Moon? My japanese knowledge is very puny) . The extras also include veil art for all the VHS tapes that have been released (13 in all, 2 episodes per tape) . I enjoyed this as it’s a microscopic alternative to owning all the tapes.

The video quality and transfer appeared very nice in this collection. At times there were parts that were grainy but for the most piece it looked astonishing, lines were very lively and distinct. Menus are the same format as the ones in the previous collections. Very simple and easy to navigate.

Only thing I’ll say about the episodes is that one episode (episode 19) introduces two crew members from the Angel Links, a ship from the military. Now if you haven’t heard of it, Angel Links is another anime soon to be released by Bandai Entertainment. This shall demonstrate exciting as two animes in the same (valid) world aren’t very approved. You should check out Angel Links if you’re looking for a fresh anime to try. The episodes salvage more enthralling and repulsive as you go on.

Final Note: The one thing I abhor about Bandai DVDs are that each episode are on different ‘Titles’ as opposed to them all being in 1 Title with different chapters. The dilemma? Well, loading time is quite long and if you exercise the Episode Grasp, you waste up going attend to the menu after each episode and it gets annoying especially with all the episodes on these collections.
